How to play

  • Drag a planet out of the tray at the bottom and throw it sideways past the star. Too soft and it falls in; too hard and it flies away.
  • Get every planet around the star the goal number of times (shown at the top) without hitting the star, a resident world or each other.
  • Main menu › How to Play shows the rules again at any time.

Sling and Guided

  • Sling is the normal way to play: drag and throw. Only slung planets score points.
  • Guided shows the predicted path before you let go. Tap the SLING chip at the top right of a level to switch to GUIDED, place the planet, pull back and release.
  • Guided wins unlock the next level but score nothing. That's on purpose: points are for throws you make yourself. Switch back to Sling any time to earn a score.

Scoring

Every slung planet earns base points plus a bonus for how round its orbit is and how quickly you finish. Sling every planet in a level for a ×1.5 Full Sling bonus. Near misses, slingshots and knocking rocks around earn Chaos bonuses. Tap the orbit shape on the result card to learn what "e" means.

Sol, the little sun

Sol explains new ideas the first time they happen. In Settings you can turn Sol's Tips off, pick one of three voices, or rewatch any tip under Watch Sol's Tips.

I can't hear Sol (or any sound). Orbit Slinger follows the Ring/Silent switch (or the silent mode set with the Action button): in silent mode the whole game is muted, including Sol's voice. Sol's words still show as captions. Turn silent mode off and check the volume to hear Sol. Music from other apps can keep playing under the game. You can also turn Sound Effects and Music on or off separately in Settings.

Replays, the Album and videos

  • After a level, watch the replay: fast between moments and slow motion through the close calls and crashes. Use the timeline to jump to any moment.
  • ★ KEEP saves the replay in the Album (main menu › Album). It holds up to 50. To make room, touch and hold a replay in the Album and choose Delete, or open it and tap the trash button. Deleting it from the Album doesn't touch videos you've saved to Photos.
  • SAVE turns the replay into a video and adds it to your Photos. The first time, iPhone asks whether Orbit Slinger can add to Photos. The app can't see your photos. If you said no, go to the Settings app › Orbit Slinger › Photos and choose "Add Photos Only".
  • SHARE (after saving) opens the share sheet. By default it first asks a grown-up question, a quick multiplication, so young children can't share on their own. A grown-up can turn this off in Orbit Slinger's Settings › Ask a grown-up before sharing or buying (turning it off asks the question too).
  • Keeping and saving never ask the grown-up question. Only sharing does.

Free game, campaigns and Orbit Lab

  • Orbit Slinger is free. The first campaign, Sol · Our Solar System (10 levels), is free to play.
  • The other campaigns (Proxima · Red Dwarf, Crimson Giant and Azure Pulsar) are one-time in-app purchases. Orbit Lab, a gravity sandbox, is a separate one-time purchase. A bundle includes Orbit Lab and those three campaigns.
  • Buying asks a quick grown-up question first.
  • There are no ads, subscriptions or random paid items.
  • Family Sharing: purchases can be shared with your family group.
  • Ask to Buy: if a child asks to buy, the purchase shows "waiting for approval" until a parent approves it on their device.

Restore Purchases. Bought on another iPhone or iPad, or reinstalled the app? Tap Restore Purchases on any purchase screen (for example, main menu › Orbit Lab) or in Settings. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.

A purchase didn't unlock. Check your internet connection, then tap Restore Purchases. If it still doesn't unlock, email us with the date of purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Game Center

  • Leaderboards (total score, each campaign, every level) and achievements use Apple's Game Center. It's optional; the game works fully without it.
  • Orbit Slinger offers to sign you in to Game Center after you've played a few levels. You can also tap Leaderboard on the main menu.
  • The sign-in screen doesn't appear. If you dismiss Game Center several times, iOS stops asking. Sign in from the Settings app › Game Center, then reopen Orbit Slinger.
  • Long-press a level on the level select screen to see its leaderboard.
  • Leaderboards count only slung planets, so Guided wins don't appear on them.

Progress and devices

  • Your progress is saved on this device only. There are no accounts and no cloud sync, so progress doesn't move between devices. Purchases do (use Restore Purchases).
  • Deleting the app deletes your progress and your Album.
  • Settings › Reset Progress erases every score and best time so you can start over. It can't be undone. Game Center scores and achievements you've already earned stay on Game Center.
  • On iPad, Orbit Slinger plays in portrait or landscape.

Haptics and accessibility

  • Settings › Haptics: Off, Gentle or Full.
  • Every Sol tip is captioned.
  • Menus and Settings work with VoiceOver. Flinging planets needs a touch gesture, so the game itself isn't playable with VoiceOver.
